waking up ritual

It takes Mila a good while to wake all the way...

"River Dance" Pros

2 Months today and I think we are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with Milana's Colic. Things were pretty bad there for a while. I remember one day in particular, where she slept for 3 hours during the night and took a 3 hour nap later that day, and that was it! 6 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. The other 18 hours were spent crying! There were probably 4-5 weeks spent like that, and now, gradually things are getting better and better. The last 2 nights she has gone to sleep with out crying at all!!!!

We have tried everything under the sun to help her feel better from gripe water, tummy massages, amber necklaces, foot zoning, essential oils, adjustments (although they have not been consistent and very frequent, I've been thinking about seeing someone more often) Ibuprofin, pro-biotics,  emotional releases, etc. Her pediatrician suggested putting rice cereal in her milk, which we have yet to try. He didn't want to put her on any medications, because eventually it will go away on its own...so we just keep praying that she will feel better so she can enjoy he new life and for my sanity! During the "bad weeks" she would scream every night without fail from 9pm to 12am-3am. We would just hold her and do everything we could think of to calm her down.

At first she liked the sound of running water, and I would fall asleep with her on the couch with the water running for several hours. That only lasted for about a week. Then we moved onto the vacuum. She loves the sound of a running vacuum. We ran it so much we blew out the motor! Ha Ha! Luckily just 2 days before it broke, Dave recorded it on his computer and put it on the I pod. It just loops over and over for a half hour. I've also fallen asleep with her to the vacuum blaring. I would often bounce her around to music. One night I had my massage mix playing, which is mostly all calm soothing music, but not necessarily all Enya. I preferred the songs with words and a beat. It passed the time for me and it gave me a beat to bounce her to.

Eventually a Celtic River Dance song came on. So I started bouncing her to the beat, almost instantly she calmed down and fell asleep. We laughed about it, but figured she was just finally tired enough to sleep. Next day I am bouncing her again, so I decided to go right for the Celtic. I cranked it up and bounced to the beat. She was out before the song was over. Ha Ha Ha. So Dave made us a Celtic mix, and we use it every time now. Works like a charm! It relaxes her and always puts her to sleep. I think its the fast beat that she likes, because it keeps me consistently bouncing her and the same steady, fast pace. He favorites are the River Dance songs. They are the fastest. (and least annoying) So now we are River Dancing every night. It gets me sweating its such a good work out (Try dancing for a half our to a fast beat carrying a 14 lbs weight) For some reason listening to that music makes you dance like them! I start making up my own "River" moves, with pointed toes, quick feet and Irish skipping (whatever that means) Ha Ha Ha. We crack each other up  every night with our new "moves". The music is so fast, that Dave makes the funniest concentrating face, because he literally has to think about his next step so he does't trip. Ha Ha Ha. Oh the things we do! Funny thing is, her hair is turning Red. With the last name of Murphy, we should have known we'd get a little Irish baby!

Check out our dancing...He He He

10 things I LOVE about you

While I could list a million things I love about our little Mila, I'll keep it brief and only do 10...

1. I love love love that when she is eating, she props her little hand up on my boob as if to stake claim on it as her own. Its so cute.

2. She has these old man tufts of hair on the back of her ears. They are about 1/4 inch long, and the hair comes to a little point. It looks like little wings. I hope for her sake, she'll loose it eventually, but for know I absolutely love those little hair patches. Ha Ha Ha

3. I love her little chin. It looks just like mine already. Pretty defined and kind of pointy. So fun to look at her and see a part of myself.

4. Her second toe is noticeably longer then her first, just like Dave's. So crazy how these little characteristics are already so noticeable. I love her little piggies!

5. I love her crazy, puffy, Albert Einstein hair, especially when she just wakes up.  Her hair has grown in for a perfect mohawk. It's long down the middle and really short down the sides.  Its out of control! It looks like she is going to have some curl in her hair, from Dave and some red in her hair, from me!

6. When she is ready to eat, she is READY to eat! She gets so worked up before she latches on, sometimes it takes her a minute to calm down and eat. Its so funny! The grunts and snorts and faces she makes just before latching on crack me up every time. Because of her crazy whirl wind eating plus the simple fact of how big she is has earned her the nick name "Mila Monster".

7. Her little yawns are adorable! Right at the very end she scrunches up her nose, and her eyes shut completely. Its such a big person thing to do. This is such a mom weird thing, but I love to smell her breath when she yawns. Her breath smells so pure. I practically put my nose in her mouth when she yawns so I can take it all in.

8. The rolls, cheeks and dimples. She is my little chubby bunny and I love it! She has rolls all the way up her legs, dimples on her elbows and again, those cheeks! She has filled out so fast! And its so freakin cute!  I wish rolls, cheeks and dimples were cute at my age.

9. She is starting to find her voice! Usually every morning for just a few minutes after she has eaten and been changed we have play time together. She coo's at me and gives me her big gummy smiles! Her little voice melts me heart, and those smiles are to die for!

10. I absolutely love and cherish waking up next to her and seeing her beautiful face hiding under the blankets. (he is so squirmy, usually all the blankets end up over her head) I just stare at her face sometimes. I can't believe she is here and that she is mine.  Love you poppy girl!
